32-bit MPUs

Microchip 32 bit MPU product overview

Entry model MPU ideal for upgrading from MCU

Microchip 's 100 to 200 MHz MCU lacks specs, and it is necessary to change to a system using Linux, but you don't want to use a high-cost high-spec MPU. We have a large lineup of optimal low-cost entry model MPUs.

SAM9 family

The SAM9X60 is an MPU that can be used in a wide range of applications because it uses the ARM926™ core, which has a proven track record over many years, to keep costs down, and also uses a new process to achieve low current consumption at a drive frequency of up to 600MHz.

The combination of 24-bit RGB LCD controller, 2D Graphic controller, and Microchip 's specialty touch controller makes it possible to configure a product with a small display with a single CPU.

Equipped with 13 units of integrated serial communication module SERCOM, which is also used in 32bit SAM MCU, 3 units of USB High-Speed, 2 units of 10/100 Base-T Ethernet MAC, etc. increase.

The SAM9X60 MPU has a lineup of three types of SiP (System in Package) that contains 500MBits/1Gbits/2Gbits of SDRAM in one package. By using SiP, it is possible to reduce the number of PCB layers* and build a system using an MPU without designing a high-speed memory bus, which is a technical hurdle. * When using DDR, it is possible to configure with 4 layers, where 6 or more layers are generally required.

In addition to SAM9X60 SiP, we also offer SoM (System on Module) with NAND Flash, EEPROM, Ethernet PHY, NEMS clock, and Power Management IC. SoM can be operated as a single system simply by mounting it on a board and turning on the power. In addition, SoM design information (circuit diagrams, BOM, CAD data, etc.) is published on the Microchip website, so you can use it as a reference design when designing a board using the SAM9X60.

The SAM9X70 series is scheduled to be released as a higher line of the SAM9X60. The SAM9X75 has improved performance by raising the CPU drive frequency to a maximum of 800MHz, while supporting DDR3L and enabling operation with lower current consumption. We also support more advanced communication interfaces such as MIPI DSI/CSI combo PHY and Gigabit Ethernet MAC.

SAMA5 family

The SAMA5D2 is an MPU line that uses the Arm Cortex-A5™ core. It has a maximum drive frequency of 500MHz and is equipped with basic communication interfaces such as 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet MAC, USB, and QSPI. SAMA5D23 and SAMA5D28 are PCI 5.0 certified and can be used in payment terminals.

Information on the development environment and technical support site

Microchip MPUs fully support Linux OS. Of course, operation with RTOS and bare metal (OS-less) is also possible. Linux OS development requires a PC that runs Linux OS, but software development is also possible by building a Linux virtual environment on a Windows OS or using the Windows Subsystem. For Linux OS development, technical support is provided by Microchip technical support services such as Linux 4 SAM, Developer's Help Wiki and Forum.
