Introduction
The new USB Power Delivery standard, EPR (Extended Power Range), was established in 2021, enabling power supply up to 240W. With the increasing popularity of high-power devices, there is a growing need for an environment capable of evaluating power levels exceeding 100W. However, such evaluation environments remain limited. To address this issue, we have developed the USB-C PD140W-DRP DP ALT SNK Board*, an evaluation kit that enables EPR testing up to 140W and confirmation of DisplayPort Alt Mode Sink operation.
*DRP= DualRolePower, DP=Display Port, ALT=Alternate Mode, SNK=Sink.
What is the USB-C PD140W-DRP DP ALT SNK Board?
The USB-C PD140W-DRP DP ALT SNK Board is a high-performance evaluation kit that supports the USB Power Delivery 3.1 standard's EPR (Extended Power Range) and enables operational testing of up to 140W of power supply and reception on a single board. This board is equipped with an Infineon USB PD IC (PMG1-S3) and supports power load testing in both USB PD140W Source and Sink modes, as well as DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode) Sink operation testing and even USB 3.0 SuperSpeed data communication testing.
The greatest feature of this product is that it integrates three functions: EPR-compatible high-output power supply evaluation, video transmission, and data communication. This allows for efficient development, evaluation, and verification of the latest USB PD-compatible devices, such as laptops, docking stations, monitors, and industrial equipment.
It also has a function for writing firmware to the PMG1-S3, making it useful for evaluating Infineon's USB PD IC and developing custom firmware. HEX files and project files are also included, allowing users to rewrite the firmware and expand functions themselves.
The main features are as follows:
- USB PD140W (EPR) Source/Sink Operation Verification: Supports power supply and reception of up to 28V/5A, enabling a variety of evaluations when combined with a stabilized power supply or PD adapter.
- DisplayPort Alt Mode Sink operation verification: Video output via Type-C is displayed on the monitor from the DisplayPort connector, and Alt Mode compatibility and switching operation are confirmed.
- USB 3.0 SuperSpeed data communication verification: High-speed data transfer operation confirmed using a Type-C to Type-A adapter and USB memory.
- PMG1-S3 firmware writing and evaluation: Supports firmware writing using Miniprog4, making it ideal for custom evaluation and development of Infineon's USB PD IC.
In addition, various connectors, test points, and jumper pins are provided, allowing you to build a flexible evaluation environment. Both sales and rentals are available, allowing you to choose the optimal usage method based on implementation costs and applications.
The USB-C PD140W-DRP DP ALT SNK Board is a powerful solution that supports efficient development and testing and improved quality for engineers and planners who want to evaluate EPR, Alt Mode, USB 3.0, and Infineon USB PD ICs all at once.
