Compared to conventional RJ45 Ethernet, it reduces PCB space by up to 75% and transmits data using only one pair of cable.
Using only one set of wires greatly reduces the number of passive components on the PCB. This single-pair Ethernet also has a very compact connector, saving up to 75% PCB space compared to current RJ45 Ethernet.
Isolation voltage according to IEC 62368-1
Like four-pair Ethernet, single-pair Ethernet also requires isolation in accordance with IEC 62368-1 (formerly IEC 60950). Capacitors with 50V galvanic isolation are almost exclusively used in automotive Ethernet applications and are insufficient for industrial applications. The advantage is that electrical isolation for single-pair Ethernet can be easily achieved with a signal transformer. The WE-STST transformer series from Würth Elektronik offers excellent performance and a very compact size of just 4.5 x 3.2 mm. Furthermore, common-mode signals can be effectively attenuated by connecting the center tap to GND.
Further EMI improvement and ESD protection
In addition to transformers (74930000), common mode chokes (744232222) can improve EMI behavior even at frequencies from 1MHz without adversely affecting data signals. The TVS diode (824012823) also complies with IEC 61000-4-2 and provides ESD protection up to 8 kV. In addition, we also handle 2kV compatible capacitors (885342208024) and general-purpose small capacitors (885012205086).
