Introducing USB Type-C without changing the microcomputer! "FUSB307B"

USB Type-C port controller without built-in microcomputer "FUSB307B"

If you use the FUSB307B provided by Onsemi, you can introduce USB Type-C while using your current microcomputer as it is.

In this article, we will explain the following three major features of the FUSB307B and products that can be used when introducing USB Typec-C.

  1. Existing microcontroller and I2C interface are possible
  2. USB Type-C port controller with USBPD function
  3. Small package, low power consumption

1. Existing microcontroller and I2C interface are possible

The FUSB307B has a built-in I2C interface, so you can use your current microcontroller as it is. Existing microcomputer development and design resources can be used as is, reducing development man-hours. This allows easy integration of USB Type-C into current systems.

It also supports up to 4 Type-C ports on the same I2C bus by connecting FUSB307B in parallel.

2. USB Type-C port controller with USB PD function

Compliant with USB Type-C Rev1.3 and USB-PD Rev3.0Ver1.1. It also complies with USB-PD interface specification Rev1.0 Ver1.2 as TCPC (Type-C port controllers) for standardized interface with TCPM (Type-C Port Manager).

3. Small package, low power consumption

The FUSB307B uses a WQFN-16 (3mm*3mm) package, which is smaller than products with built-in microcontrollers.

In terms of power consumption, the maximum supply current of 10uA when USB is not connected contributes to improving the battery life of mobile devices.

Evaluation board "FUSB307BGEVB" for immediate evaluation

An evaluation board and manual are also available to evaluate the FUSB307B. With connection to a PC and GUI, the evaluation board can function as a source, sink, or dual role port.

OVP switch "FUSB252" for overvoltage protection

The FUSB252 is an integrated port protection switch for USBTyp-C applications. Compliant with USB Type-C Rev1.2.

This product protects the HSD+/- and CCx pins when subjected to voltages up to 20V. The CC switches also have a very low Ron resistance of 0.3Ω to minimize signal attenuation.
