explanation

This "Nios® II Getting Started Guide" series is for users new to the Nios® II processor.

The Nios® II optionally implements floating-point arithmetic custom instructions that support single-precision floating-point arithmetic, but not double-precision floating-point arithmetic. It has come true. However, in software calculations, the execution speed is extremely slow, and applications that use a lot of double-precision floating-point calculations may not be able to meet the performance requirements of the processor. Therefore, by performing double-precision floating-point arithmetic in hardware, high arithmetic performance can be achieved.

This document introduces procedures and sample code for implementing four arithmetic operations, type conversions, and comparisons of double-precision floating point numbers with custom instructions.
