To use the Questa* - Altera® FPGA Edition or Questa* - Altera® FPGA Starter Edition provided by Altera® with a FLOAT license, you need the vendor daemon saltd in addition to the general-purpose lmgrd and utilities. These are provided as the Siemens License Server on the Altera® website.
This article explains how to obtain and install the Siemens License Server.
Download Siemens License Server
① Access Flexlm License Daemons for Intel® FPGA Software.
② Download the installer that corresponds to the OS you will use for the license server.
The folder path to save the file must not contain double-byte characters or spaces.
Installing the Siemens License Server
Here we will explain using an example where the license server is running Windows OS.
The purpose of this installation is to obtain the license daemons (lmgrd, saltd) and the lmutil and lmtools (Windows only) files.
We will not configure the license server here.
① Double-click the downloaded SiemensLicenseServer_vxxxx_Win64_x86-64.exe.
② When the "Welcome" screen appears, click [Next].
③ On the "Import License File" screen, click [Skip] without specifying anything.
④ On the "Installation Location" screen, specify the folder where you want to save the files. (Please specify a folder path that does not include double-byte characters or spaces.)
After specifying, click Next.
⑤ On the "Enter Webkey" screen, select "I don't need this feature" and click [Next].
⑥ On the "Confirm Installation" screen, do as shown below and click [Next].
⑦ The installation will begin, and when the "Installation is complete" screen appears, click [Finish].
