Essential security measures for cloud-based businesses supporting new ventures: A zero-based review prompted by the end-of-life (EOL) of existing products.

Macnica has been providing customers—including major domestic and international manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment—with new semiconductors, electronic devices, network-related equipment, software, and other products emerging and evolving around the world, while adding its own unique technical value. In recent years, the company has gone beyond the scope of a traditional trading company and has been actively promoting initiatives to create new services and businesses on its own.

At this company, the IT Headquarters' New Business Development Support Office is responsible for supporting the development of newly launched businesses and services from the perspective of IT infrastructure and foundation construction. Yuki Yoshii, the principal in this department who leads the construction of business foundations, particularly security measures in cloud environments and the establishment of internal governance, says the following:
"Speed is crucial when launching a new business. It requires quickly understanding market needs, building prototypes, and repeatedly testing them. Therefore, the foundation must be a cloud service that offers speed and flexibility. However, prioritizing speed too much and neglecting security could lead to fatal damage to the company later on. On the other hand, overly strict governance can stifle the speed and flexibility of the development team. The company had implemented a certain product for cloud security measures, but in the summer of 2025, the vendor notified them that it would reach its End of Life (EOL) in August of the following year, forcing them to urgently review their solution. While there were successor products to the existing one, using them would require migrating all existing data to the new environment, which would have required a significant amount of time and effort.
"There were also some uncertainties regarding our future product roadmap. Given that, we thought it was necessary to survey the latest security market and consider from scratch whether there was a solution that would be best suited to the Company environment and challenges," (Yoshii)
