Visualize and centralize distributed security operations
Eliminates dependency on individual developers, allowing development by non-developers
The challenges faced by S&J
  • Security operation systems differed depending on the project, and management and maintenance required a lot of man-hours.
  • Due to the vendor-free basic policy, we handle a wide variety of products, which makes collaboration more complicated
  • Due to the dependency on individuals and silos, it was time-consuming to visualize which analysts responded to what.
The Swimlane Solution
  • Consolidating distributed security operations into one system in Swimlane, reducing the burden on personnel
  • Low-code playbook development improves development speed and quality
  • Response history can be centralized, and individual workloads can be easily understood.

<<Previous Issues>> Increasing man-hours and increasing complexity/personalization of management and maintenance in the operation of SOC services are issues. Considering the introduction of an automation platform that can be operated by non-developers

S&J is a cybersecurity company founded in 2008 by Nobuo Miwa, former CEO of LAC Co.,Ltd. Based on a vendor-free policy, the company not only provides products but also offers a comprehensive range of services, from consulting to security monitoring and incident response. The company is also distinguished by its high level of technological capabilities, including the provision of "KeepEye," a domestically developed MDR service that integrates EDR with managed services. Regarding the company's goals, Board Director and Head of Core Technology Koichi Hanzawa said, "We continue to work hard every day to provide security services that combine technology and communication to as many customers as possible."

The company was facing challenges in operating the SOC (security operations center) services it provides to its customers, including increasing man-hours and increasingly complex and personalized management and maintenance. Ryuto Otsubo, an engineer in the Core Technology Research Group of the Core Technology Department, recalls, "We had systems like SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation and Response) to reduce operational burdens, but because each person in charge had developed their own system using Python or C++ for each project, it actually took a lot of man-hours to manage and maintain it. Previously, we were able to handle operations that were dependent on human labor, but as the number of projects and the organization grew, operations were becoming more complicated, and we felt a sense of crisis that we would eventually reach our limits."
In recent years, the company has experienced high growth of over 20% annually, and the number of customers has been steadily increasing. In addition, the company has a vendor-free policy and handles a variety of security products to meet customer needs, which has made the integration of these products more complex.
"With SOAR, which is developed for each project, the quality of the documentation is not standardized and can be dependent on one person. In such cases, if the person in charge changes or leaves the company, it can be difficult to hand over the work. the Company strength lies in our high level of technical ability, so we can handle issues through reverse engineering, but performing analysis every time would be a huge burden. To solve these issues, we decided to consider introducing an automation platform that could be used by analysts who are not developers, and a platform with excellent visualization capabilities," says Otsubo.
