Since its founding, MDS Solutions has been expanding its business in the field of printed circuit boards, backed by its high level of technical capabilities. When a major client requested that the company obtain ISMS certification, the company decided to handle the series of tasks required for the audit in-house rather than outsourcing them. They also successfully passed the audit and obtained certification.

Major business partners request ISMS certification, making it essential to consolidate and systematize existing systems and measures
Since its founding, MDS Solutions has consistently expanded its business in the field of printed circuit boards. The company's main clients are the research and development (R&D) departments of major Japanese manufacturers, and it is currently leveraging its advanced technical capabilities to focus on the development of simulation technology and other areas, continuing to challenge itself to be at the cutting edge of manufacturing.
At the end of 2023, the company received a request from a major client to obtain multiple certifications, including ISMS (ISO27001). Looking back on that time, Makoto Shibuya, the company's Board Director Vice President and General Manager of the D&M Division, recalls, "Around this time, it was becoming essential for companies involved in cutting-edge technology development, such as circuit and board design, to obtain various certifications, including ISMS certification. In fact, one of the Company top clients, a manufacturer of final products, was pursuing certification throughout its supply chain, and ISMS certification was a mandatory requirement for new transactions. This request came at a time like that, so rather than coming as a complete surprise, it was actually the final push we needed to pursue certification."
At the time, the company had not yet obtained ISMS certification, but it had already implemented high-level security measures to comply with the certification, such as adopting a multi-layered defense system, including for the network.The company also deliberately refrained from using cloud services, and handled all of its main business operations, such as design-related work, and highly confidential data using on-premise systems.
"However, security governance and company-wide guidelines remained undeveloped, and countermeasures were left up to individual staff members. Therefore, in order to obtain certification, rather than simply introducing new countermeasures, we needed to consolidate and systematize the individual structures and countermeasures being implemented," says Shibuya.
