Since its founding in 1912, JTB has been developing tourism businesses on a global scale. Currently, the company has expanded its business to include business solutions, area solutions, and global areas. By providing a variety of solutions, the company is focusing on "exchange creation businesses" that create all kinds of interactions on a global scale and evoke emotions and empathy in customers.

The company boasts the largest scale of business in the travel industry in Japan, but in 2006 it transitioned to a business holding company and was spun off into separate companies. After that, in 2018, 15 companies, including regional companies, were reintegrated into the headquarters, which led to some of the information systems becoming more complicated. Regarding this point, Yasuhiro Futagoishi, IT Planning Manager of the Group Headquarters IT Planning Team, said, "When the companies were spun off, the information systems were once separated. Therefore, even after the reintegration, there were still a lot of file servers in the company, and data was scattered all over the place. This led to inefficient operations." In addition, the company has seen an increase in project-based operations in recent years, which has led to an increase in collaboration with outside parties, such as group companies and partner companies. There was a need to share information efficiently both inside and outside the company, but there was no system in place to do so.

"So, at the project site, we used file transfer tools to communicate with the outside world, but these weren't standardized and we were using more than 10 different tools in total," says Futagoishi.

Fortunately, there have been no major security incidents or other problems up to now, but the company has a large number of file servers and data is scattered. The current scattered situation is also undesirable from a governance perspective.
"Therefore, we need to further streamline our operations and strengthen governance at the company level. "To achieve this goal, we decided to look into a system for sharing information that could be used centrally and securely," says Futagoishi.
