"Safe Emergency Care x MAQUP (Make-Up)!" Macnica and the Yokohama City Fire Department are promoting health and preventive emergency care!
The Yokohama City Fire Department (Kohoku Fire Station and Seya Fire Station) and Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara) will collaborate to promote public health and preventive emergency care, and will begin awareness campaigns.
As the first initiative, we will hold frailty measurement events utilizing the "Anshin Kyukyu*1" service promoted by the Yokohama City Fire Department and Macnica 's frailty prevention service "MAQUP*2" on September 5th at Seya Public Hall and on September 6th at Tressa Yokohama. Moving forward, both parties will continue to collaborate with the aim of creating a community that extends healthy life expectancy and reduces the need for emergency transport.
1. Background
In recent years, the number of emergency dispatches in Yokohama City has continued to increase, and the time from dispatch to arrival at the scene and even to arrival at the hospital has become longer, putting a strain on the emergency medical system. In particular, the majority of those transported are elderly, and falls among the elderly are the most common cause of general injuries. The elderly are prone to falls and injuries in their daily lives due to decreased muscle strength and balance function, and with the population expected to age further in the future, it will become difficult to maintain the emergency medical system if this trend continues.
In light of this situation, the Yokohama City Fire Department is implementing the "Anshin Kyukyu" (Safe Emergency) project, which promotes the appropriate use of ambulances and the prevention of injuries and illnesses, and is working to prevent risks that could lead to emergency transport.
Meanwhile, Macnica has developed "MAQUP," a tool that allows for a simple and objective assessment of frailty in the elderly based on findings from epidemiological research, and is supporting the understanding of frailty and health status, as well as behavioral change. Frailty, one of the common health risks for the elderly, can, if left untreated, lead to a decline in muscle strength, walking ability, and balance, potentially resulting in falls, fractures, reduced opportunities to go out, and further physical decline. By using "MAQUP," citizens can become aware of their own condition before requiring emergency transport, providing an opportunity to take actions to reduce risks.
This time, taking advantage of the collaborative proposal solicited by the Yokohama City Fire Department, both parties have decided to collaborate on awareness-raising activities in order to promote public health and preventive emergency care in an integrated manner.

In Yokohama City, since fiscal year 2024, we have been implementing the "Safe Ambulance" initiative to promote the appropriate use of ambulances by clearly communicating to citizens information such as "preventive measures against injuries and illnesses that may lead to emergency calls," "where to seek advice in case of trouble," and "symptoms that require an emergency call."

2. Details of the initiative
In this collaboration, we will conduct a frailty measurement event at the "Emergency Fair" hosted by the fire department, with the aim of allowing more people to experience health promotion and preventive emergency care in an integrated manner through events and other means.
This initiative aims to provide citizens with an opportunity to understand their own physical capabilities and lifestyle risks, and to engage in daily exercise, fall prevention, and preparedness before needing to call emergency services.
The primary target group for the frailty assessment event is the elderly (65 years and older). No prior registration is required.
