Macnica participates in JICA demonstration project, receiving high praise for the effectiveness of its proprietary solution "ANTERAS ASM" in the ASEAN region - enabling the discovery of previously unknown publicly available assets and vulnerabilities, and supporting rapid response to zero-day threats.
Macnica (Head Office: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara, hereinafter Macnica) participated in a demonstration project promoted by JICA (hereinafter JICA) as part of the "Information Collection and Verification Survey on Strengthening Public-Private Partnership in Cybersecurity in the Global (Wide-area) ASEAN and Indo-Pacific Regions." As a result of conducting a PoC using its proprietary solution "ANTERAS ASM (formerly Macnica ASM) *" in the ASEAN region, results such as discovering previously unknown external public assets and vulnerabilities were confirmed, and the company is pleased to announce today that it has been evaluated as a solution that contributes to reducing organizational cyber risks.
■Background
In recent years, developing countries, including those in ASEAN, have faced increasingly serious cyber risks such as ransomware attacks, cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure, and personal data breaches, making the strengthening of national-level cybersecurity capabilities a critical issue. In response to this situation, the Japanese government and JICA are promoting the improvement of cybersecurity capabilities and the strengthening of international cooperation in the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific region. As part of this effort, JICA is conducting research and demonstration projects in the field of cybersecurity in the region under the global agenda of "Realizing a Free and Secure Cyberspace."
"ANTERAS ASM" is a proprietary solution developed in-house that leverages the expertise of Macnica Security Research Center to provide accurate and comprehensive investigations through its uniquely developed AI-driven tools, combined with expert investigations as needed. It can identify assets, including overseas locations, such as domains and rogue servers that customers themselves may not be aware of, and present unique risk indicators based on attacker trends. "ANTERAS ASM" was selected for this demonstration project based on its track record and expertise in handling overseas locations.
■ Overview and results of the demonstration project
In this demonstration project, a proof-of-concept (PoC) was conducted using "ANTERAS ASM" targeting government agencies and critical infrastructure operators in ASEAN. The results, which included the discovery and visualization of publicly available assets held by the target organizations and the evaluation of high-risk assets, indicated that the system is effective in detecting and visualizing unidentified publicly available assets and potential risks, verifying the validity of management, and supporting rapid responses to zero-day threats.
Visualization of unidentified publicly available assets and risks.
For government agencies, in addition to discovering previously unknown publicly accessible assets, the system was found to detect multiple high-priority risks, proving effective in visualizing the attack surface and identifying risks that should be prioritized.
- Support for rapid response to zero-day threats
During the demonstration period, we provided rapid alert notifications and identified affected assets for zero-day threats that occurred. Through the provision of information on new threats, the value of threat intelligence in early warning and risk mitigation, and the usefulness of early response before an incident occurs, were evaluated.
- Compliance with local data protection regulations
By utilizing an OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) approach, we were able to conduct research without handling personal information, which resulted in high praise for our compliance with local data protection regulations.
These results demonstrate that "ANTERAS ASM" is an effective solution even in overseas environments, including the ASEAN region.
■Future Outlook
Through this demonstration project, the effectiveness of this solution was evaluated even in environments requiring high security requirements, such as government agencies and critical infrastructure operators. Leveraging the knowledge and results gained from this demonstration project, Macnica will accelerate the expansion of its ASM-centered business in overseas markets, including the ASEAN region. Going forward, we will contribute to strengthening the cybersecurity of companies and organizations not only in Japan but also in the global market.
*: What is ANTERAS ASM?
Macnica was among the first in Japan to launch its self-developed ASM solution in June 2021. ANTERAS ASM achieves accurate and comprehensive research by leveraging the expertise of the Macnica Security Research Center, in addition to its proprietary AI-driven tools developed by experts, as well as expert investigations as needed. It is possible to identify assets such as domains and rogue servers that customers themselves are not aware of, including overseas locations, and effectively address high-risk assets based on proprietary risk indicators that consider attacker trends.
Additionally, starting May 27, 2026, this solution will be renamed from "Macnica Attack Surface Management" to "ANTERAS ASM."
