About Miyake Town, Nara Prefecture
Miyake Town, located in the center of the Nara Basin, is the second smallest town in Japan, with an area of only 4.06 square kilometers. Rice cultivation is believed to have been practiced there since around the 5th century, when the Yamato no Miyake, a direct territory of the Yamato court, was established. It is a "just right" rural area, with easy access to the urban centers of Osaka and Kyoto, yet still boasting beautiful rural landscapes.
With the vision of "A small town where you can live happily in your own way," and based on three pillars of "dialogue, challenge, and failure," we are promoting collaborative town development that embraces the small size of the town in a positive way and leverages face-to-face relationships between residents, the administration, and local organizations.
