Macnica and Claremont Graduate University begin co-creation toward "AI for Humanity" - Signing LOI defining areas of collaboration in research, education, and innovation

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter Macnica) and Claremont Graduate University (Headquarters: California, USA; Interim President: Michelle Bligh; hereinafter "CGU") announced today that they have signed a Letter of Intent (hereinafter "LOI") to confirm their mutual understanding to explore the possibility of strategic collaboration on the theme of "AI for Humanity."

Based on this LOI, Macnica and CGU will collaborate with CGU's Center for Information Systems and Technology (CISAT) and the Drucker School of Management to explore opportunities for collaboration in the areas of research, education, and innovation related to the societal impact and responsible use of AI.

AI is rapidly impacting industries, educational institutions, and society as a whole around the world. In this context, both parties recognize the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to ensure that AI is developed and utilized in an ethical, trustworthy, and human-centric manner.

■Comments from the leadership
"We are thrilled to welcome this new addition to our community," said CGU Provost Dr. Jody Waters.
"CGU's mission has always been to develop leaders who will bring about positive change. The emergence of AI brings great possibilities, but also great responsibilities. Through this LOI, we intend to create a forum for collaboration with Macnica to deepen research, education, and dialogue that places human values at the center of technological advancement."

Macnica Representative Director and President Kazumasa Hara said:
"Macnica 's mission has been to implement cutting-edge technology in society so that everyone can enjoy its benefits. What we value is not just pursuing technology, but delivering it as 'value that can be used now' in the workplace. While AI has the potential to greatly change society, its value can only be maximized by putting humans at the center and implementing it responsibly. Our partnership with CGU is an important step in realizing this vision. By combining the knowledge of both parties, we will strive to create the 'now' rather than waiting for the future by implementing ethical and sustainable AI in society and nurturing the next generation of leaders who will carry it out."

The signing of this LOI marks the first step toward future collaboration, combining CGU's academic strengths and leadership education perspective with Macnica 's technological expertise and global industrial perspective. Both institutions share the recognition of the importance of guiding AI development based on ethical principles and human-centered values, and view this LOI as a foundation for continued discussion and consideration.
