Macnica supports NHK Spring in consolidating its R&D infrastructure, utilizing AI, and democratizing data. Providing the cloud-based data intelligence platform "Databricks" accelerates on-site adoption and digital transformation.

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter Macnica) announced today that it has provided the cloud-based data intelligence platform "Databricks" to the R&D headquarters of Nippon Shusei Corporation (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan; Representative Director and President: Kazuhisa Uemura, hereinafter referred to as Nippatsu) to support the consolidation of infrastructure, AI utilization and data democratization in R&D. (hereinafter referred to as "Nippatsu"), and supported the consolidation of R&D infrastructure, utilization of AI, and democratization of data.

In recent years, as many companies have begun to utilize AI, they have faced challenges such as data being scattered across departments, making it difficult to know where what data is located, and the lack of a data storage infrastructure and an environment in which AI can be utilized.
Macnica 's Databricks is a cloud-based data intelligence platform that enables data accumulation, processing, analysis, AI model development, and operation in a streamlined, efficient, and low-cost manner, enabling cross-departmental data utilization and collaboration between users with different skills.

■Request from NHK Spring
The company's Research and Development Headquarters was considering creating an environment for utilizing AI in research and development.
• We want to prepare a foundation for accumulating data for AI utilization
• I want to unify the items and storage locations of management data.
• I want to create a development environment for tuning and optimizing AI models.

■ Features of "Databricks" and reasons for selection
• One-stop data utilization
Data accumulation, processing, analysis, and visualization can all be achieved in one place on a single platform, simplifying complex collaboration and work processes.
• Ease of settling into the field
Excel data, which is familiar to researchers in the research and development field, can be easily imported and utilized, reducing the psychological barrier to system migration and allowing for the smooth introduction of a new platform.
• High versatility and flexibility
It is versatile enough to meet a wide range of needs, from developing AI models to using it as a data warehouse (DWH), and can flexibly handle a variety of data processing and image data using Python and other tools.
• Low barrier to entry
You can start small with pay-per-use charges, and gradually expand the scope of use while minimizing initial investment and risk.

Macnica utilized its knowledge and experience in utilizing Databricks to propose solutions from the initial concept stage of database development and provided hands-on support during the implementation phase. It also provided training and other support to help the system become established.

■ Effects after introducing "Databricks"
We can now access the information we need in just a few minutes by simply accessing Databricks, greatly improving the aggregation and accessibility of research data. As a result, data management is no longer dependent on specific individuals, and we have created an information infrastructure that everyone can use. Furthermore, by increasing the number of trials for tuning AI models and parameter search, prediction accuracy has also improved. Furthermore, it has become easier to access research data from different fields that we had not previously been involved in, leading to the creation of new value.

■Future plans for using "Databricks"
Currently, around 10 people at NHK Spring's Research and Development Headquarters are using Databricks, with plans to expand the number of users across business units in the future. NHK Spring also aims to build an information infrastructure that is easy for everyone to use by taking advantage of Databricks' application creation functions and user-friendly UX.

Macnica will continue to leverage its customer-focused, detailed technical assistance and support capabilities to help Japanese companies advance their businesses through data utilization.
