The results of a joint research project between Shizuoka University, NT Tool, and Macnica on cutting processing status monitoring using the semiconductor strain sensor STREAL were presented at the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, at the JSME Annual Conference, the results of joint research by Shizuoka University ("Shizuoka University"), NTT Tool Corporation, and Macnica utilizing the Macnica original brand semiconductor strain sensor "STREAL" were presented.

| title | "Estimation of steady-state wear state of drills using a cutting tool holder-mounted wireless torque and thrust measurement system" |
| Presentation summary | The jointly developed wireless torque and thrust measurement system equipped with STREAL monitors the cutting resistance acting during drilling, making it possible to grasp the wear state of the drill in real time and predict breakage. This system overcomes the issues of conventional piezoelectric and strain gauge types, achieving high sensitivity, compact size, low power consumption, and low cost. By detecting the sudden increase in strain seen just before the tool reaches the end of its life, it contributes to determining the appropriate timing for tool replacement. |
