JR Central's research results on the behavior of long rails using semiconductor strain sensors STREAL were presented at the Japan Society of Civil Engineers
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the 2025 National Convention of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) presented the results of its research using Macnica original brand semiconductor strain sensor, "STREAL."
| Presenter | Mr. Takanori Furuta of JR Central and Mr. Ryoji Okada Macnica |
| title | "Long-term investigation into the behavior of long rails" |
| Research overview | To reduce the burden of labor-intensive inspections, JR Central is working on developing a device that uses the semiconductor strain sensor STREAL to monitor the condition of track facilities. This presentation reported the results of long-term measurements from August 2022 to February 2025. Stable axial force measurements were made over a period of approximately two years and seven months, which allowed the behavior of the long rails to be understood. Going forward, the team plans to work on understanding the behavior of bridge sections and verifying their consistency with theory. |
