Macnica (headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter "Macnica") announced today that four members of its Macnica Security Research Center and other organizations have been appointed as "Cybercrime Countermeasures Technical Advisors" to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Headquarters (hereinafter "Kanagawa Prefectural Police").

As the threat of cyberspace grows and becomes more serious, the Kanagawa Prefectural Police is operating an advisory system in which individuals with advanced and up-to-date knowledge of information and communications technology are appointed as "Kanagawa Prefectural Police Cybercrime Countermeasures Technical Advisors" in order to utilize the knowledge of private businesses and others to improve the police's capabilities to deal with cybercrime.
Macnica has been researching trends in cyber attacks targeting Japan and countermeasure solutions, primarily through its Security Research Center, and has given back the knowledge it has gained to society through a variety of activities. In addition, with regard to phishing crimes, which have become a social problem, we have conducted surveys of attack methods and actual conditions, focusing on the abuse of SMS, and have worked with government ministries and agencies, telecommunications carriers, and various organizations to support the implementation of countermeasures and conduct awareness-raising activities to prevent damage.
In the past, we have worked with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police to solve social issues related to cybersecurity through holding the Kanagawa Cybersecurity Forum, participating in the Cybercrime Prevention Volunteer Program, and joining the Kanagawa Prefectural Corporate Cybersecurity Public-Private Joint Project, sharing threat information and raising awareness of countermeasures. In recent years, we have continuously supported cyberattack countermeasures against companies and organizations by investigating specific VPN products with publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and jointly providing information and warnings to companies that own the targeted products. Furthermore, starting this year, we have built a cooperative relationship in various ways, such as training security personnel and supporting the acquisition of knowledge, such as accepting Kanagawa Prefectural Police personnel for dispatch.
Macnica will further strengthen its activities with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police in the future, striving to reduce the damage caused by cyber attacks and crimes in Kanagawa Prefecture and not only to Japanese companies and citizens.
