Macnica provides Shikoku Electric Power with "Menlo Security" as a replacement for VDI - Eliminating response delays and creating a safe and comfortable web environment for 13,000 employees at 11 group companies -

Macnica (headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica), together with its secondary distributor, Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Asano Kengo), announced today that it has provided the virtual browser platform "Menlo Security Isolation Platform" (hereinafter referred to as Menlo Security) to Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (headquarters: 2-5 Marunouchi, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President CEO: Miyamoto Yoshihiro; hereinafter referred to as Shikoku Electric Power).

Background
In 2019, Shikoku Electric Power introduced an on-premises VDI as part of its security measures to protect important social infrastructure. However, since the COVID-19 outbreak, the use of web conferencing has increased, resulting in a noticeable shortage of resources and delayed response times. In addition, there was a limit to the number of people who could log in, which meant that later users could not use the system, and in order to use the web, users had to first access the VDI and then launch a browser, which was time-consuming and inconvenient, causing problems for business operations.
Even if they wanted to increase resources, the company's VDI was an on-premise environment that used more than 50 servers, so it was not easy to do so due to the need to procure hardware and the space required for installation. The maintenance burden was also heavy, placing a strain on the staff.

Reasons for selecting Menlo Security
Shikoku Electric Power introduced Menlo Security to solve these issues. Menlo Security is a virtual browser solution that transfers only safe information that does not contain malware from the Internet to the user via a platform isolated from the network. Its patented technology ACR (Adaptive Clientless Rendering) retrieves web content and executes programs on behalf of the web browser. This means that network isolation is possible without compromising usability, without collapsing the layout of the website. In particular, Menlo Security was evaluated from the perspective of optimizing investment, as it is a cloud service that does not require the procurement and installation of various servers, eliminates the limit on the number of simultaneous connections, and resolves resource shortages, as well as being able to be implemented in a short period of time.
Another deciding factor in our decision to implement Menlo Security was its extensive track record with large-scale users.

■ Benefits of implementation
By implementing Menlo Security, the slow response time, which was the biggest issue, has been completely resolved, and operations can now be carried out smoothly even when access is concentrated. File downloads, which previously required the time-consuming task of first downloading to the VDI environment and then copying, can now be performed directly from the web, improving convenience.
Furthermore, the number of inquiries to the systems department has decreased significantly, allowing the time saved to be used for other tasks.

■ Future outlook
Shikoku Electric Power is also considering adopting zero trust to ensure security as a company that handles critical infrastructure. Although it is still in the planning stage, the company is considering integrating the security measures it currently uses with multiple products into Menlo Security.

Macnica provided Shikoku Electric Power with a wide range of support, from proposals to implementation and construction. We will continue to use our deep knowledge to solve security issues for our customers' critical infrastructure and work to reduce damage from cyber attacks.
