Macnica becomes the first in Japan to offer Splunk® Edge Hub - Facilitating the consolidation of OT data, enabling highly accurate factory safety monitoring and predictive detection -
Macnica (Head office: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica) announced today that it will be the first in Japan to offer Splunk Edge Hub from Splunk Inc. (Head office: San Francisco, California, USA; Cisco Go-to-Market President and Splunk General Manager: Gary Steele; hereinafter referred to as Splunk). It simplifies the aggregation and analysis of OT data, enabling factory safety monitoring and predictive detection.
■Challenges in collecting OT data
In recent years, the amount of data from control devices and instruments in factories and plants has been increasing, and the methods of importing data have become more complex. In some cases, data is collected through IoT gateways, in other cases, logs collected on maintenance PCs are linked to log collection software, and in some cases, a mechanism for transferring data from one data source to another is prepared because the communication method is limited to a specific protocol depending on the data source. These require individual consideration for each data or sensor to be sent, and there are many ways to upload the data required for analysis to the analysis platform, which places a high burden on IT staff, and the current situation is that many customers have challenges in aggregating data.
■ Aggregating and utilizing data flows with Splunk Edge Hub
Splunk Edge Hub is a gateway for aggregating complex data flows in OT environments. It easily collects IoT data and sensor data and enables advanced monitoring and analysis with Splunk software. Its biggest feature is that it supports industry standard protocols such as modbus, MQTT, OPC UA, and SNMP, which are widely used in OT, making it possible to acquire data from any device or application, including industrial devices.
In addition, the Splunk Edge Hub device itself has internal sensors that collect a variety of environmental information, such as temperature, humidity and air pressure, so simply connecting it to Splunk software will allow you to immediately obtain and transmit environmental information from the location where the Splunk Edge Hub device is installed.
Leveraging Splunk's analytics, machine learning and other technologies makes safety monitoring, real-time detection, and predictive detection easier.

As the sole distributor of Splunk Edge Hub in the Japanese market, Macnica will support data utilization and production process optimization in all industries involved in manufacturing.
"Splunk is committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers," said Gary Steele, president, Go-to-Market, Cisco and general manager, Splunk. "Splunk is committed to delivering the best possible service to our customers."
"We are pleased that our long-time partner, Macnica, will begin selling Splunk Edge Hub in Japan. Splunk Edge Hub removes barriers and provides access to data that was previously difficult to extract. This partnership will enable Macnica to leverage Splunk Edge Hub to build customized solutions that help them gain visibility across their OT environment and solve key problems in the manufacturing industry."
