Tobetsu Town, Hokkaido and Macnica sign a comprehensive partnership agreement regarding co-creation of a smart town using digital technology
Tobetsu Town, Hokkaido (Mayor: Goto Masahiro) and Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara; hereinafter referred to as Macnica) announced today that they have concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement to strengthen their mutual collaboration and cooperation and actively advance joint initiatives regarding the co-creation of Tobetsu Town as a smart town using digital technology.
Tobetsu Town and Macnica conducted a traffic demonstration of an autonomous driving bus in July 2023 with the aim of creating a lively atmosphere around Royce Town Station, which opened in March 2022, and verifying new mobility. The purpose of this agreement is to contribute to solving social issues by effectively utilizing the technologies, knowledge, human resources, etc. that each party possesses and working together on mutually collaborative initiatives in order to continue accelerating the transformation of Tobetsu Town into a smart town.

About Tobetsu Town, Hokkaido
Tobetsu Town borders Sapporo City and is located approximately 45 minutes from central Sapporo. In the 4th year of the Meiji era, Kuninao Date, the lord of the Sendai domain, Iwadeyama, immigrated with his vassals, and the history of difficult development began. The people's efforts to cultivate the area developed into the richest farming village in the Sapporo branch jurisdiction (at that time) around 1901, and the foundation of the town was laid, with agriculture as its core industry. Today, the area boasts one of the highest rice production volumes in the prefecture, and one of the highest cut flower production values in the prefecture.
