Macnica supports the introduction of "Cato SASE Cloud" to Sapporo Real Estate Development - Builds a secure network environment for multiple outsourced companies, contributing to the discovery and response of latent "malware-infected terminals" -

Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Kazumasa Hara, hereinafter Macnica), a total Services & Solutions provider in semiconductors, networks, cybersecurity, and AI/IoT, has announced that Sapporo Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: We are pleased to announce that we have provided "Cato SASE Cloud" from Cato Networks, a SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) platform President: Takanari Miyazawa, hereinafter referred to as Sapporo Real Estate Development.

■ Background
Sapporo Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the real estate business of the Sapporo Group, which has Sapporo Breweries at its core, outsources the operation of each of its commercial facilities to approximately 20 subcontractors. Among the various scales of outsourced companies, security operations were entrusted to each company, and the security measures at each facility were not sufficient. In addition, since the outsourced company is an external organization, it was difficult to build an internal network (LAN).
Therefore, Sapporo Real Estate Development considered introducing security solutions such as SD-WAN in order to consolidate the networks of all subcontractors and unify and strengthen the security level. Then, we adopted Cato SASE Cloud, which can be introduced at a reasonable price even if the number of target terminals is small.

■What is Cato SASE Cloud? -Solution Overview and Decisive Factors for Implementation-
All-in-one network and security, Cato SASE Cloud is a global, integrated, cloud-native service that securely and optimally connects all locations, data centers, mobile, remote work, and cloud services.

The decisive factor in introducing this service at Sapporo Real Estate Development was that even small and medium-sized companies could use it at an appropriate cost. Other companies' SASE products are based on the premise of large companies, and the minimum number of licenses exceeds 100, which was too much for Sapporo Real Estate Development, which has about 40 target terminals. On the other hand, Cato SASE Cloud has a minimum number of licenses of 10, so we were able to introduce it without excessive costs.

■Effects of introduction and future policy
The effect of the introduction is that it has revealed potential threats that were previously not visible on the table. IPS, a security function of SASE, detected unauthorized communication on a terminal of a contractor company, and when investigated, it was found to be infected with malware. In a conventional environment, these threats would not have been noticed, which could have led to serious problems eventually.
In addition, it provided an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between the contractor and cyber security risks. After implementation, one of the contractors deleted the Cato SASE cloud once installed. The external free storage service that the contractor often used became unusable when he installed the Cato SASE cloud, so it was removed because it was inconvenient. When we asked Sapporo Real Estate Development to reinstall the Cato SASE Cloud, it was an opportunity for the contractor company to understand the IT governance rules of the Sapporo Group.
Looking ahead, Sapporo Real Estate Development plans to expand its Cato SASE Cloud in line with the increase in contractors. In addition, we are considering the use of the optional function CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker).

As Cato Networks' primary distributor in Japan, Macnica will continue to provide customers with new and useful information as quickly as possible and support their security operations with its high level of technical expertise and support capabilities.
