Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are high-performance solar cells that combine the properties of thin-film solar cells with power generation performance comparable to crystalline silicon solar cells (the highest conversion efficiency recorded for a cell size as of December 2021 was 25.7%), and are considered the leading candidate for next-generation solar cells. They are thin, light, and bendable, and can even be made semi-transparent by devising the material composition, so they are expected to be used in fields where conventional crystalline silicon solar cells cannot be installed. In addition, it is said that if large-area coating technology is established, significant cost reductions will be possible.
Enecoat has developed perovskite solar cells that are optimized for IoT devices in terms of power consumption and shape, and Macnica has utilized the benefits of this next-generation solar cell to develop a device that can operate a CO2 sensor even in indoor environments and transmit information wirelessly.
It has been said that operating a CO2 sensor and transmitting data stably without an external power supply in indoor lighting environments is difficult due to the balance between the power generation efficiency of the solar cell and the power consumption of the sensor itself. However, thanks to Enecoat's perovskite solar cells, which have sufficient power generation capacity even under low lighting conditions, and Macnica 's low power consumption design technology, which utilizes its extensive semiconductor knowledge, we have succeeded in developing a next-generation IoT CO2 sensor terminal that can be powered solely by solar cells.
