Silicon Labs CP210x: Should I change the Vendor ID (VID) or Product ID (PID)?

CP21xx

In general, each USB product has its own Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID), and the USB host (PC, etc.) uses that information to determine which driver should be used, etc. identification. Of course the CP210x also has a VID and PID, by default they are:

Article header vendor%20id%ef%bc%88vid%ef%bc%89%e3%82%84product%20id%ef%bc%88pid%ef%bc%89%e3%81%af%e3%80%81% e5%a4%89%e6%9b%b4%e3%81%99%e3%82%8b%e5%bf%85%e8%a6%81%e3%81%8c%e3%81%82%e3% 82%8a%e3%81%be%e3%81%99%e3%81%8b%ef%bc%9f 1

The default VID/PID combination may be used by many users. It is often used in magazine supplements and the USB interface of evaluation boards of other companies' devices. If products with the same VID/PID are connected to one PC, they may not be identified correctly. It is not a very good situation to use the value as it is without changing it.
However, if the usage environment is limited and there is no possibility of conflict with other products, the same ID may not be a problem.
As a point of caution, changing the VID/PID of the CP210x requires customization of the driver as well. If you customize the driver, Windows authentication/digital signature will not be obtained, and you will not be able to install it on some operating systems.
Please decide whether or not it is necessary to change according to the usage environment.
