I heard that SignalTap II uses FPGA resources. Is it possible to check approximate resources before compiling?

After setting each parameter on the SignalTap II GUI, you can check the estimated resource usage in the Instance Manager: window.
The actual resources used are reported by registering and compiling a SignalTap II file (.stp) with Quartus II.
stp file registration method
- Select Assignments ⇒ Settings
- Select SignalTap II LogicAnalyzer from Category
- Check Enable SignalTap II LogicAnalyzer and register the generated file in the SignalTap II File name: field
Report confirmation method
- Select Processing ⇒ Compilation Report
- Check from Fitter ⇒ Resource Section ⇒ Resource Utilization by Entity
