The .bak file that is automatically generated when you edit the HDL source code in Quartus® Prime will not be generated by disabling the option as follows.
<Procedure>
Open any HDL file via File menu > Open.
Select Tools menu > Options > Text Editor category in Quartus® Prime.
Set the "Save backup file" option = OFF and click the OK button.
