Intel: What is the relationship between Quartus® Prime/Quartus® II compilation speed and the number of processors in the machine?
Category: Quartus® Prime / Quartus® II
Tools: Quartus® Prime / Quartus® II
device:-
Quartus® Prime / Quartus® II supports the Intel HyperThreading function (a function that supports multitasking by increasing the number of cores), but the Parallel compilation setting of Quartus® Prime / Quartus® II is Auto If set to (Use all available processors), only the actual number of cores will be used.
Therefore, in order to use all processors recognized by HyperThreading, it must be set to Manual (Maximum processors allowed:xx).
This reduces compilation time by about 10%. (of course it depends on the number of processors)
The number of processors actually used can be found in the Parallel compilation section of each report file (.fit.rpt, .map.rpt, *.sta.rpt, etc.).
You can also check the average number of processors used in the compilation flow (Analysis&Synthesis, Fitter, Assembler, TimingAnalyzer) in the *.flow.rpt file.
