In a configuration that uses the JTAG_UART core, if Reduce device driver is set to On in the bsp-editor settings, the character string output by printf will be stored in the buffer inside the JTAG_UART core.
However, if the terminal does not connect, this buffer may be FULL resulting in a blocking call.
If this is the case for you, removing the print statement from your software or launching a terminal by typing nios2-terminal from the Nios® II Command Shell will resolve it.
