Is there a way to specify my preferred web browser when launching help in Quartus II?
Category: Quartus® II
Tools: Quartus II
device:-
The Quartus II help function is displayed using a web browser installed on your computer.
Please use the setting method corresponding to the version of Quartus II to be used.
■ For Quartus II v13.1 and later
The web browser to be launched is the web browser specified as the program to be launched by the htm file in the "default program settings" of the OS you are using.
If you want to change the web browser that starts up, follow the steps below.
- Launch Control Panel.
- Enter the keyword “Set Default Programs” in the “Search Control Panel” Box on the right side of the screen.
- Select the browser you want to use in the Quartus II Help and select "Choose which items open in this program by default."
- Select "htm" from the extensions and click the Save button.
If the above method does not start the desired web browser, set it in the INI file.
Here's how:
(If Quartus II is running, exit the tool.)
- Open "quartus2.ini" in a text editor. The quartus2.ini file is stored in:
[Windows OS] Under C:\Users\ folder
[Linux OS] Under \\home\altera.quartus folder
(under the \\home folder if the altera.quartus folder does not exist) - Change the WEB_BROWSER value in the [Internet Connectivity] section of the INI file to the absolute path of the desired web browser startup file.
If this Variable Name does not exist, create a new one.
(Example) WEB_BROWSER = C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe - Overwrite and save the INI file.
- Then when you start Quartus II, it will automatically load quartus2.ini and reflect your settings.
■ For Quartus II 13.0 and earlier
Set in the Quartus II options.
- Select Tools menu ⇒ Optoins.
- Click on the Internet connectivity category and select the desired web browser startup file using the browser button to the right of the "Web browser" item displayed in the dialog Box.
- Click the OK button in the Options dialog Box to apply the settings.
