Current drive type gate driver SiC GaN

Product Summary

The Si82Fx is a completely new type of gate driver that drives the gate of a power transistor with a constant current.

Driving with current reduces switching loss and at the same time mitigates emissions and overshoots. Since the CMTI is high, please try it for driving next-generation power semiconductors with high-speed switching. Driving with constant current eliminates the need for gate resistors. The gate drive current can be dynamically controlled by the voltage or resistor of the input side control terminal (SPD+/-). In addition, since there is no gate resistor, the Miller clamp terminal is shared with the output terminal, and a 2ch 1 package (SOIC-14) is realized with a built-in Miller clamp, contributing to miniaturization. The input is a high-voltage CMOS input that allows you to set a high threshold, and there is also a glitch filter option, making it highly resistant to noise.

Product features

  • With a high input range (3~20V), it supports analog controllers such as 15V in addition to controlling 3.3V and 5V.
  • Output power supply range of 5 to 30V for high gate drive
  • SelVCD (Selectable Variable Current Drive) allows the drive current (up to 4A, 8 fixed values) to be dynamically changed with high precision.
  • Eliminates gate resistor and incorporates Miller clamp function into terminal
  • High CMTI characteristics (CMTI>200KV/us)
  • High insulation resistance 1500Vrms (UL 1577 1min), Working Voltage (6VKrms), ±10KV surge resistance
  • Various UVLO options (4, 8, 12, 15V) Also for GaN and SiC

Active Gate Control

The source/sink current to the gate can be controlled individually with eight current settings by the voltage at the input SPD+/- terminals or by external resistors.
The gate driver settings can be actively switched from a controller, etc.
Countermeasures against simultaneous ON are also built in, such as logic control to prevent the upper and lower drivers from being driven by mistake and dead time control functions.

It can be configured with a minimum number of external components.

Comparison with existing product series

The table above summarizes the differences between the existing product series (Si823Hx) and the new product series (Si82Ex, Si82Fx).

The Si82Ex is a simple isolated gate driver that removes the SelVCD (Variable Current Drive) function of the Si82Fx.

The particularly important specifications are highlighted in red. The Si82Ex and Si82Fx have a high insulation voltage of 6KVrms and a CMTI of 200kV/us, and UVLO options range from 4V to 15V, making them compatible with a wide range of power devices.
In addition, the CMOS input provides a high noise margin and there is also an option to include a built-in de-glitch filter.
