Product Summary
Si838x is a digital isolator that supports 24V PLC input such as industrial IO and NC.
Like a photocoupler, it does not require a power supply on the input side and operates with +/- bidirectional current input (sink/source input). It has a built-in LED emulator circuit, is easy to change from a photocoupler circuit, and conforms to IEC61131-2 switch types 1, 2, and 3. The output is a 5V logic output. High-speed signal transmission of 1MHz (2Mbps) is possible, and CMTI is 50kV/us (typ) for robustness. The OOK method is more resistant to noise than latch type products.
A higher CMTI of 300KV/us (typ) can be obtained with the built-in input debounce filter. In addition, there is an optional product that allows you to develop a PLC that supports up to 16 units and 128 channels with one SPI.

Unlike photocouplers, there is no need to calculate CTR considering deterioration over time. The temperature characteristics and aging change are small, and the design can be performed with little variation between channels. A diode bridge is included to accommodate sink/source inputs.

Evaluation Board
SI838XISO-KIT Si838x PLC Input Isolator Evaluation Kit
The Si838x evaluation board allows easy evaluation of this product family. The evaluation board has three input networks of TYPE1, TYPE2, and TYPE3 conforming to 24VDC IEC61131-2. A 24 V digital logic signal can be applied to the test point labeled "EXT" and signals up to 5 V can be applied to the remaining Ax and AHx test points for evaluation. (Ax is the low speed channel, AHx is the high speed channel)
The board allows easy characterization of the device's key characteristics and allows direct connection to external systems.
