SENSIRION's environmental sensor combo module "SEN6x" is equipped with a compact and powerful sensing platform. It combines multiple sensors in an unprecedented form factor and can measure up to nine environmental parameters (PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, temperature, humidity, VOC index, CO2 or formaldehyde).

Strengths of SEN6x

Conventionally, when performing environmental measurements using multiple sensors, resources are required to develop communication sequences with each sensor and design resources for housing where to place each sensor in consideration of self-heating, and it takes time until market launch. It was a product that took a lot of time. It also required an expensive microcontroller to process communication algorithms with each sensor.

In contrast, SEN6x includes all the necessary algorithms, freeing you from the hassle of sensor integration and development. Combo sensor integration software makes communication with the main microcontroller simpler. SENSIRION is in charge of the housing design, and customers can use it simply by connecting I2C communication.

Additionally, since the algorithm is processed by the microcontroller inside the combo sensor, a smaller/lower-priced main microcontroller can be used. In other words, by using "SEN6x" it is possible to bring products to market in a short time. Because SENSIRION handles all of our customers' costly and time-consuming processes, we can focus more on realizing core elements that cannot be imitated by other companies.

SPS6x sensing structure

SENSIRION has strengths in miniaturization, including miniaturization of CO2 sensors. "SEN6x" is 40% smaller than the previous "SEN5x" and integrates more sensors. At the core of this is "SPS6x," a completely new compact MEMS-based particulate matter sensing element. All components required for PM1, PM2.5, PM4 and PM10 measurements are integrated.

Patented geometry and state-of-the-art MEMS and packaging technology allow the integration of light sources, detectors, signal processing, and algorithms into one cost- and space-efficient solution. Measurement of particulate matter is based on light scattering. When particles in the air pass through the integrated laser beam, they scatter light, which is captured by a photodetector. The integrated algorithm analyzes the scattering particles and determines the particle size distribution and mass concentration. The integrated ASIC functionality eliminates the need for external processing, and SPS6x provides complete processing value through I2C communication.
