Industry-leading* radiation intensity! Small, surface-mount near-infrared LED developed

ROHM Co., Ltd. has added a new lineup of compact, top-view surface-mount near-infrared (NIR) LEDs for applications such as VR/AR equipment, industrial light sensors, and motion sensors.

　
[New products are available in six models in three package configurations]

・Ultra-compact (1.0 x 0.6 mm), ultra-thin (0.2 mm)PICOLED Pico Red™ series: "SML-P14RW" and "SML-P14R3W"

- In the industry standard size (1.6 x 0.8 mm), there are the circular lens types "CSL0902RT" and "CSL0902R3T" with narrow directivity, andthe flat lens types "CSL1002RT" and "CSL1002R3T" that emit light over a wide area.

Each package is available with wavelengths of 850 nm (860 nm for SML-P14RW) and 940 nm, allowing you to select the right one for your application.
The 850nm wavelength is compatible with phototransistors and camera light-receiving elements, making it ideal for applications requiring high sensitivity, such as eye tracking and object detection in VR/AR.
On the other hand, 940 nm is less susceptible to sunlight and does not appear red when emitting light, making it suitable for motion sensors, etc. Furthermore, it is also used in biosensing applications such as pulse oximeters to measure blood flow and oxygen saturation (SpO₂).
 
The light source is equipped with an NIR element with an optimized light-emitting layer structure, utilizing the unique technology we have developed through our own manufacturing. This technology has made it possible to achieve industry-leading* radiation intensity, which was previously thought to be difficult to achieve in a small package.
For example, when comparing the "SML-P14RW" with a standard 1006 size product, it achieves approximately 1.4 times the radiation intensity at the same current value, and approximately 30% less power consumption at the same radiation intensity. This improves sensing accuracy and reduces power consumption for the entire set.
