Providing optimal drive for BLDC motors requires a large number of parameters to be sensed and complex algorithms required to generate appropriate multi-phase PWM waveforms.

In real applications, supply voltages can range from around 8V for small battery operation to up to 400V for rectified and power factor corrected mains supplies such as in domestic appliances. Motors may need to be able to reverse, they may or may not have built-in sensors, and users increasingly expect equipment to have field update capabilities that can change the motor control characteristics.

Qorvo 's PAC5xxx series of intelligent motor controller ICs Power Application Controllers® (PAC) fully integrate drive and control functions. They are based on either the Arm® Cortex®-M4F running at 150 MHz with 128 kB flash and 32 kB​ ​SRAM memory with a 2.5 MSPS 12-bit ADC or the-M0 variant with 32 kB flash and 8 kB​ ​SRAM at 50 MHz with a 1 MSPS 10-bit ADC (Figure 1).

Qorvo's intelligent motor controllers Power Application Controllers® (PAC) series integrate multiple sensors and communication interfaces for any BLDC motor control application, with "auto-tuning" mode for specific motors with fine resolution It has the ability to configure, update and optimize PWM with.

Three-phase gate drivers with high peak current ratings are integrated with high-side voltage ratings up to 600V for the first time on the market. Internal linear and switching regulators are also included to minimize board space and BOM cost.
