Accelerate Flyback Designs with New TinySwitch-5 Guide and Design Example
The latest TinySwitch-5 family of switcher ICs sets a new standard for basic flyback power supply design using diode rectification and optocoupler feedback. This increases maximum output power to 175 W offline and 190 W with power factor correction, while achieving efficiencies up to 92% at full load. To help get your design started, Power Integrations has released a comprehensive design guide (AN-112) and several new design examples.

Equipped with an advanced control engine, TinySwitch-5 devices optimize efficiency even at light loads, achieving a peak efficiency of 87% at 1% load. This enables the power supply to deliver 220mW of output power while remaining compliant with the EU ErP input standby power limit of 300mW. TinySwitch-5 ICs are available in both through-hole packages for maximum output power and surface-mount package options for heatsink-less designs that utilize board cooling. The latter includes a thermally enhanced eSOP™-12 package capable of delivering up to 75W without a heatsink.
