The importance and capabilities of on-premise and local LLM for secure AI utilization in financial institutions
Mr. Suzuki gave us a practical introduction, including how to use cloud and on-premise systems.
Utilizing Generative AI in Financial Institutions and Reassessing On-Premises Environments
The key themes for generative AI in 2025 include "AI agents," "physical AI," and "return to on-premise." AI agents enable autonomous execution of business processes, while physical AI, combined with robotics, is accelerating its deployment in physical spaces. Financial institutions in particular are focusing on the use of generative AI in on-premise environments from the perspective of protecting confidential information. Amid persistent concerns about cloud environments, on-premise x local generative AI is becoming a viable option in terms of security, cost, and flexibility. In fact, the number of implementation cases is increasing both domestically and internationally, opening up new possibilities for business efficiency and automation.
Additionally, the following three points were cited as advantages of on-premise x locally generated AI:
・Security:
Because it is operated in a physically closed environment, the risk of information leaking to the outside is extremely low, allowing personal and confidential information to be handled with peace of mind.
Cost-effectiveness:
There is no pay-per-use charge, and initial costs have dropped significantly in recent years. In the long term, it can be operated more economically than the cloud.
・Customizability:
It is easy to connect to existing on-premise systems and allows for flexible design according to business needs.
The Use of Generative AI in Financial Operations and the Importance of On-Premise Environments
The use of generative AI in on-premise environments is progressing, with projects such as automating underwriting appraisals at life insurance companies and AI-generated minutes of bank sales records. Cloud computing is suited to real-time processing, while on-premise computing is suited to mass processing and high security, and it is important to use the appropriate technology depending on the business, he said.
