Semiconductor solutions supporting EV platform development

As electric vehicles (EVs) rapidly gain in popularity, battery management systems (BMS) are becoming more diverse and complex due to an increase in vehicle models, higher battery voltages, and an increase in the number of battery cells installed in vehicles. In response to these changes, automakers are developing common platforms and applying them to a variety of vehicle models in order to reduce development costs and efficiently increase the EV lineup.
Nuvoton Technology Japan has begun mass production of its fourth-generation battery monitoring chipset to meet the increasing diversity and performance of BMS in anticipation of the widespread development of EV platforms. The fourth-generation chipset combines a battery monitoring IC with a high-precision ADC and a communication IC with a pack monitoring IC (PM-IC) that measures and controls the current of the battery pack.
In this webinar, we will discuss the Company efforts in the EV market to extend battery life and support EV platform development, as well as the concept and features of our 4th generation battery.

Technology to estimate internal battery temperature to improve safety during rapid charging

Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) first became popular in mobile phones and smartphones, and are now used in applications that use multiple cells, such as electric vehicles (BEVs) and storage batteries. However, LiBs have the risk of overheating and catching fire due to overcharging and over-discharging, and manufacturers are taking various safety measures to ensure their safety. In particular, the market for BEVs has grown significantly as an environmental measure, and today, technology to increase the voltage from 400V to 800V is being developed to shorten charging times.
Nuvoton has previously introduced a battery residual value assessment technology that uses AC impedance measurement with a battery monitoring IC chip as a technology to facilitate the reuse and Our Group's Purpose of LiBs. In this webinar, in addition to voltage monitoring and residual value assessment functions using the Company ICs and proprietary algorithms, we will also introduce a technology that estimates the internal temperature of a battery cell from changes in impedance values inside the battery cell, which ensures safety during rapid charging.

Low-loss MOSFETs contribute to the miniaturization and weight reduction of the increasing number of in-vehicle electronic devices

Compared to conventional resin PKG products, Nuvoton CSP MOSFETs are smaller in size, have lower on-resistance, better heat dissipation, and are more reliable. They are widely used in mobile devices equipped with lithium-ion batteries, including smartphones, and have captured a large global share of the smartphone market.
In recent years, the automotive industry has seen an increase in the number of electronic devices installed in response to the need for EV/ autonomous driving and improved comfort, making it necessary to make these devices smaller and lighter.
This webinar will explain the features of CSP MOSFETs and their application in automotive devices. Please join us.

What are the three technologies supporting the evolution of in-cabin sensing?

Demand for improved performance and functionality related to automotive safety and comfort is growing not only due to consumer demand, but also due to strengthened safety assessment programs such as Euro NCAP. In particular, to realize safety and comfort equipment inside the vehicle, it is important not only to improve the performance of each function, but also to streamline and streamline the entire system.
Nuvoton offers solutions that can contribute to system rationalization with semiconductor devices to improve safety and comfort inside the vehicle: "3D-TOF sensor for detecting and recognizing occupants," "Brdige-IC for aggregating and controlling multiple sensors," and "HMI display LSI for improving visibility."
