Simple isolation applications can be configured!

Sensing applications in the industrial market often require signals to be transmitted over long distances. However, if analog signals are transmitted over long distances, signal quality can deteriorate due to interference from noise, increasing the possibility of causing equipment malfunctions. To solve this problem, signals can be converted to digital and then transmitted, making them less susceptible to the effects of noise.
The "NA2100" is a product that can simply convert analog signals to a frequency (digital) proportional to the voltage without requiring external commands, solving the problem of signal quality degradation caused by noise contamination.
In addition, in industrial equipment, it may be necessary to isolate the voltage measurement block from the signal processing block due to differences in ground standards or to take measures against noise. When using a general AD converter, the large number of parts and increased costs become an issue, as shown in the reference circuit below.

The "NA2100" can achieve a conversion accuracy of 12 bits or more with a simple circuit configuration, and can configure a simple isolation application by isolating the output signal with a photocoupler. The photocoupler's current signal can be I/V converted by an operational amplifier and transmitted to an MCU. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, it maintains high linearity over a wide range while reducing the number of parts (no AD converter or MCU is required for signal processing), lowering costs and solving customer problems.

Assumed application

・Simple 12-bit or higher AD converter

- Simple isolated transmission between voltage measurement block and signal processing block

・Battery monitor system

Features

1. Provides a wide range of linearity performance

A simple circuit configuration provides conversion accuracy of 12 bits or more. The linearity error specification is ±0.018% max/FullScale. Converted to 12 bits (4096 gradations), this is ±0.74LSBmax/FullScale @12 bits, which satisfies the linearity of ±1LSB or less. The output frequency is f CLKIN  A wide range of low distortion output is available, from 10% to 90% of the input. (BUF=OFF)

2. Supports 5V operating voltage, which is common in the industrial equipment market, and also supports 3.3V operation

Supports 5V operating voltage and can also operate at 3.3V. By using a photocoupler in combination, simple isolated sensing applications can be built.
