Automotive CAN Transceiver Product Overview

Infineon offers a wide range of in-vehicle CAN transceivers, particularly those with excellent EMC characteristics and ESD resistance, and have a proven track record with automakers around the world.They are also excellent in terms of quality.

The lineup includes CAN FD (Flexible Data Rate) products supporting data rates of 5 Mbit/s, CAN FD PN (Partial Networking) products ideal for applications requiring low current consumption, "Grade 0+" products compatible with 150°C and ideal for applications in high temperature environments, and CAN FD SIC (Signal Improvement Capability) products supporting data rates of up to 8 Mbit/s with signal improvement functions, in both DSO and leadless packages.

CAN FD

Infineon's transceivers are designed for CAN (FD) networks in automotive applications. As cars become more sophisticated, the need for CAN FD networks to replace traditional CAN networks is increasing, and Infineon's CAN transceiver family is perfectly suited to OEM requirements.

The latest TLE935xB family is also fully compliant with the new ISO11898-2:2016, with wake-up capable variants meeting worldwide OEM t-wake filter time requirements of 1.8 µsec and 0.5 µsec, whilst the new CAN FD family also meets older ISO standards and is therefore backwards compatible and can be used in legacy CAN networks.

CAN FD PN(Partial Networking)

Infineon's TLE9255W series of CAN FD Partial Networking (PN) products is part of the latest Infineon CAN transceiver family and is fully compliant with the new ISO 11898-2:2016 and the previous ISO 11898-6. The transceiver is fully compliant with CAN FD 5Mbit/s in addition to Partially Networked CAN (CAN PN) and the wake-up enabled variants meet worldwide OEM t-wake filter time requirements of 1.8 µsec and 0.5 µsec.

Additionally, the SPI interface of the TLE9255W series is used to configure the wake-up function, INH output, mode and low-voltage control of the device, allowing the flexibility of using the TLE9255W family in a variety of automotive applications.

Especially suited for applications with low power consumption requirements, two non-low power modes (normal operation mode and receive-only mode) and two low power modes (sleep mode and standby mode) provide minimal current consumption based on the required functionality. For example, in sleep mode, the TLE9255W series consumes only 26µA quiescent current and can detect the wake-up pattern (WUP) on the CAN bus.

CAN FD Grade 0+

Infineon's Grade 0+ products are highly robust products that have undergone stricter testing than the conventional AEC Q-100 standard. Compared to conventional products that can withstand 125°C, Grade 0+ products can withstand 150°C, making them particularly suitable for automotive applications that require high temperatures and long life.

CAN FD SIC(Signal Improvement Capability)

CAN technology was developed to provide a robust and scalable network, but maintaining robustness at higher data rates is difficult. Ringing in low data rate networks can be compensated for with time, but at higher data rates this bit time is no longer available.To achieve both a stable network and the high data rates required for modern networks, the CAN SIC transceiver was developed incorporating signal improvement features.

CAN FD SIC transceivers actively improve signal integrity within the network, reduce signal ringing effects and allow operation in large topologies at significantly higher bit rates than previously possible. CAN FD SIC products also replace existing CAN (FD) transceivers, so no major changes to your application are required. What's more, they are backward compatible with existing CAN transceiver solutions.

The new CAN FD SIC technology supports networks with transmission speeds from 500 kbit/s up to 8 Mbit/s.
