Infineon inherits CMOS RF technology developed by Broadcom

One of the reasons why Bluetooth became popular was that the RF circuit for Bluetooth could be realized using a CMOS process that was inexpensive and had low power consumption. Broadcom, the semiconductor manufacturer that made this technology a reality, sold its wireless IoT business, excluding smartphones and access points, to Cypress in 2016. Infineon acquired Cypress in 2020, so Infineon is currently taking over the Bluetooth technology inherited from Broadcom.

Infineon's strengths

Infineon's annual shipments of Bluetooth-related devices have recently exceeded 350 million units. Infineon's Bluetooth products have been widely accepted in the Japanese market due to their compliance with the latest standards and enhanced support system.

Since the days of Broadcom, Japan has been our focus market, and we have many engineers in Japan.
Since many wireless device manufacturers are overseas, Infineon boasts the highest level of support in Japan.

CYW20829 ~The latest Infineon Bluetooth device~

CYW20829 is a BLE chip that supports "Bluetooth 5.4", the latest Bluetooth standard.
Its characteristics are as follows.

  • Compatible with all new Bluetooth 5.4 features including PAwR
  • Equipped with two Arm® Cortex®-M33 cores
  • Receiving sensitivity of -98dBm at LE 1Mbps, -106dBm at LE Long Range 125Kbps
  • Compatible with ultra-low latency human interface device (ULL HID) planned for Bluetooth 6.0 with software changes

Module product lineup including CYW20829

In addition to the CYW20829 IC chip, we also handle modules equipped with peripheral components such as antennas, and mass production is scheduled for April to June 2024.
In addition to CYW20829, the image below also shows the CYW20822 for Low-end and the 30739 module that supports Bluetooth + Thread for Matter.

Evaluation environment for CYW20829 provided by Infineon

In addition to the CYW20829 evaluation kit CYW920829M2EVK-02, we would like to introduce the integrated development environment "ModusToolbox™" provided free of charge by Infineon, and the developer community "Infineon Developer Community".
