The new UL-certified GDT225HE series meets the reliability requirements of industrial, renewable energy, and communications applications susceptible to lightning strikes.

Riverside, California – February 24, 2026 – Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, announced the GDT225HE series of high-voltage, high-energy gas discharge tube (GDT) arresters. Bourns' new GDTs offer industry-leading surge protection in a compact package and are optimized for high-energy AC-DC power systems such as EV charging infrastructure, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and industrial power converters. These systems are particularly susceptible to events such as commutation and fault insertion. The series features the ability to safely conduct high thermal energy (I²t) over extended periods during transients, making it ideal for system-level surge and fault protection, equipotential bonding, and lightning protection designs requiring safe shunting and control of high-energy discharges.

The Bourns® GDT225HE series offers superior protection for high-energy applications with a high risk of lightning strikes, supporting a wide DC discharge initiation voltage (DCBV) range of 1000V to 2000V and achieving a rated discharge current (In) of 40kA and a maximum discharge current (Imax) of 60kA in 8/20µs waveforms. These high-power GDTs provide extremely high current handling capabilities for AC power line applications while employing a slim, compact, and space-saving design, offering a space-saving alternative to conventional large surge protection solutions. Furthermore, to meet the high-density and space-saving requirements of today's PCB designs, the series is available in multiple lead configurations to suit various mounting specifications.

The Bourns® GDT225HE series is currently available for purchase, is UL certified, meets ITU-T K.12 testing standards, and is RoHS compliant (*1).
