Added PPTC resettable fuses offer increased design flexibility with up to 55 different choices — including increased power ratings in a compact 1812 size
Riverside, Calif. — July 2, 2025 — Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, announced the expansion of its Multifuse® MF-MSMF series of high-power surface-mount PPTC (polymeric positive temperature coefficient) resettable fuses. This expansion includes 32 new part numbers and an increased number of 60VDC models. These new products are designed to meet the needs for a wide range of hold currents (Ihold) from 100mA to 2.6A and voltage ratings (Vmax) up to 60VDC. Offering superior overcurrent and overtemperature protection, this series is an ideal solution for safely protecting a variety of applications within their specified ratings.
New products in the MF-MSMF series utilize Bourns' proprietary freeXpansion™ design, delivering higher hold current, improved voltage handling, and stable resistance characteristics in an even more compact footprint. Select models are offered in compact 1812 package sizes, significantly reducing board space and cost compared to the traditional 2920 size. These advancements offer numerous benefits in a variety of applications, including low-voltage DC ports, such as USB, HDMI, HDTV, PCs, notebooks, data centers, and portable consumer devices.
"Bourns deeply understands the need to address protection needs and collaborate with our power application customers to support their goal of increased efficiency," said Jennifer Joseph, vice president of Protection at Bourns. "As each new product generation becomes more sophisticated and consumes more power, the need for protection solutions that can handle higher power ratings in a compact form factor becomes even more critical. We designed the Multifuse® MF-MSMF series to ideally meet this need."
Bourns® Multifuse® Polymer PPTC Resettable Fuses have been recognized for their superior quality and reliability through key functional tests, including a 30-minute holding current test, a 100-cycle trip life test, and a 48-hour trip endurance test. Additionally, they undergo rigorous evaluations, including a 1000-hour passive aging test, a 1000-hour humidity aging test, and a 20-cycle thermal shock test, to minimize the risk of field failure. Additionally, the SMD terminals are plated with Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) for improved solderability, extended shelf life, and resistance to tin whiskers.
Thirty-two new part numbers in the Bourns® Multifuse® MF-MSMF Series are now available and are RoHS compliant. These fuses are UL/CSA/TÜV certified to meet safety standards. TÜV certification includes IEC 62319-1, IEC 60738-1, and IEC 60730-1:2013, including Articles 15, 17, and Annex J. Products are manufactured in Bourns' IATF 16949 certified manufacturing facility.
