Internationally certified hybrid surge protection devices with features that extend application life and improve reliability

Riverside, Calif. – May 1, 2025 – Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, announced that its innovatively designed IsoMOV® hybrid protectors have achieved IEC 61051-2 Certificate of Conformity and UL 1449 recognition. Bourns® IsoMOV® protectors are the first hybrid surge protection devices to undergo the rigorous testing and documentation required by these international standards, allowing designers to confidently add the long life and reliability benefits that IsoMOV® protectors offer to key market applications where IEC certification is a prerequisite.

Bourns® IsoMOV® protectors are a hybrid design that integrates a GDT and MOV, combining both devices in a single package where the GDT blocks leakage current through the MOV, preventing premature failure, providing superior surge protection in terms of performance, operational lifetime and improved device reliability. This compact hybrid design has performance specifications typically found in larger, traditional MOV devices, allowing Bourns® IsoMOV® protectors to better tailor surge protection performance to tight space requirements.
