New varistors specifically designed for automotive circuits are available in 1210 and 1812 SMD packages and offer enhanced energy absorption and power dissipation capabilities

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- April 22, 2025 -- Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, has added two new product series to its automotive-grade, AEC-Q200 compliant BVRA multilayer varistor line. Bourns specifically designed the new BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 series to provide superior surge protection for today's highly sensitive automotive circuits. These low voltage multilayer varistors provide superior transient energy absorption with state-of-the-art energy absorption capabilities and an advanced power dissipation design.

The varistors added to the BVRA line meet the requirements of the IEC61000-4-5 standard, providing automotive designers with effective overvoltage protection to safeguard their components from harmful transient voltage events. These varistors offer a very fast transient response (<1.0ns reaction time) to ensure rapid energy dissipation during surge events. In addition, the new series offers stable leakage current for consistent overvoltage protection. They are also available in a wide operating voltage range from 11V to 100V DC. The optimized design of the new BVRA series comes in compact SMD EIA 1210 and EIA 1812 size packages with an added insulating coating to simplify integration and improve efficiency.

The Bourns® BVRA1210 and BVRA1812 series are currently available and are RoHS compliant(※) and lead (Pb) free.
