New 2220 size multilayer varistor offers five times the surge current capability of standard varistors of the same size

Riverside, Calif.: March 3, 2025 - Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, introduces the new ZV50S2220452NIR1 high-surge multilayer varistor. Offered in a compact 2220 surface mount package, these rugged multilayer varistors are specifically designed to meet the lifetime requirements of applications operating in certain harsh environments. Ideal for space-constrained designs, the Bourns® ZV50S2220452NIR1 varistor features five times the surge current capability of standard varistors of the same size.

Additionally, Bourns' latest multilayer varistors provide superior transient energy absorption with improved energy volume distribution and power dissipation. These varistors feature response times of less than 2ns, rated voltages of 50Vrms, peak pulse surge currents of 4500A, and an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. Designs that benefit from the overvoltage protection capabilities of these new varistors include Wireless Remote Units (RRUs), Power over Ethernet (PoE), base stations, wireless infrastructure and measurement and control equipment for 5G applications.

Bourns® ZV50S2220452NIR1 high surge multilayer varistors are currently available and are RoHS compliant.
