Bourns' Riedon™ SSD-250A digital current sensor is an accurate, compact and cost-effective measurement solution with digital advantages

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- January 7, 2025 -- Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, announced it has further expanded its digital shunt sensor line with the release of the Riedon™ SSD-250A Series digital current sensor. The new 250A Series is offered in two versions: an RS-485 serial interface model (also configurable as MODBUS RTU) and a customizable CANbus model. Designed to provide developers with a wide range of measurement solutions with digital advantages, the series features rated currents of 100A, 250A and 500A, an operating temperature range of -40°C to +115°C and galvanic isolation of 1500VDC for improved accuracy and operational stability.

Delivered in a compact System-in-Package (SIP), the SSD-250A series offers a calibrated and temperature-compensated digital output, making it an ideal current-sensing solution for a variety of battery-related applications, including renewable energy systems, motor drives, and EV charging stations. These shunt-based sensors provide highly accurate measurements that contribute to more efficient power usage while eliminating the need for periodic device calibration. Additionally, the new series features a much lower insertion resistance than passive shunt and Hall-effect sensors.

The Bourns Riedon™ SSD-250A Series Digital Current Sensors are currently available and are RoHS compliant.
