The new Bourns® GDTs comply with international IEC and UL standards, as well as emerging market application specifications, providing higher levels of power protection than ever before.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- October 7, 2024 -- Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, announces the addition of two high current two-electrode gas discharge tube (GDT) series to its high energy GDT family. The Bourns® GDT225EX and GDT230E series are designed to provide extreme energy surge protection for AC and DC power line designs. These high energy GDTs meet the enhanced requirements of IEC lightning protection zones, UL1449 and IEC61643-11 standards, making them ideal protection solutions for existing and next generation applications that are frequently exposed to excessive current surges.

Providing a new level of surge protection for high power designs, these two model series offer superior features. The Bourns® GDT225EX Series offers surge ratings up to 120kA with 8/20μs waveforms housed in a compact 20mm diameter flat configuration. The GDT230E Series offers surge ratings up to 160kA in a 30mm diameter flat configuration. Both series offer DC withstand voltage options from 500V to 800V, providing reliable protection for compact AC power line applications while ensuring compatibility with the most common AC voltage system configurations. The new series also offers designers more versatility, providing options for a variety of voltage configurations in low voltage networks without compromising surge protection performance.
