Product Summary
The AEC-Q100 qualified ACS71240 series of monolithic Hall effect current sensors offers improvements over the popular Allegro ACS711 series of current sensors. These improvements include output signal immunity to stray magnetic fields (generated by adjacent motors or current carrying wires), improved output signal accuracy (typically less than ± 1.5%), and output signal immunity to noisy power supply voltage rails. The device also features a dedicated fast overcurrent fault output with a typical response time of 1.5 us. This fast fault output can easily detect short circuit events to prevent damage to MOSFETs or IGBTs in inverters, motors or other switching power electronics applications.
The ACS71240 is available in two very small package options, each offering different levels of galvanic isolation. The tiny 3mm x 3mm wettable flank QFN package can be used with voltage rails up to 120VDC, allowing for 0PPM solder joint inspection required in automotive applications. The standard footprint SOIC8 package is UL recognized for 2400VRMS of isolation and offers a working voltage of 420VDC or 297VRMS.
The ACS71240 series is designed to replace shunt resistors, operational amplifiers, current transformers and voltage isolators in applications requiring a small form factor monolithic sensor solution. The reduction in discrete components saves board space and lowers the overall cost of current sensing. The sensor can be used with either a 5V or 3.3V power supply.
