TPS568215 and TPS56C215 are compatible with Hot Rod™ package
The TPS568215 and TPS56C215 are "Hot Rod" package products that enable performance improvements in power supply circuits, including noise reduction, depending on the package.
This article introduces the following features of the TPS568215 and TPS56C215.
- Each pin is compatible The same peripheral circuit can handle increases and decreases in load current
- Switching frequency/current limit threshold/forced PWM operation or Eco Mod operation can be set with only two resistors.
- Hot Rodパッケージの採用によるノイズ低減
1. The TPS568215 and TPS56C215 are pin-compatible, and the same peripheral circuit can handle changes in load current.
Since the TPS568215 and TPS56C215 are pin-compatible and have a common peripheral circuit, if the rated current of the inductor is taken into consideration, it is possible to respond to increases and decreases in load current simply by changing the common peripheral circuit or inductor.
The basic specifications of the device are as follows.
Input voltage range | 4.5V to 17V |
Output voltage range | 0.6V to 5.5V |
Reference voltage accuracy | 0.6V±1% (Tj=-40℃ to 150℃) |
Rated current | 8A (TPS568215), 12A (TPS56C215) |
switching frequency | 400kHz/800kHz/1200kHz |
Other functions | Enable, PowerGood, Variable Soft Start |
Package | VQFN-HR-18 (3.5x3.5mm) |
2. Switching frequency/current limit threshold/forced PWM operation or Eco Mod operation can be set with only two resistors.
In the TPS568215 basic circuit diagram below, it is possible to set the device as follows by combining the constants of the two resistors RM_H and RM_L connected to the MODE pin.
- Switching frequency: 400kHz/800kHz/1200kHz
- Current Limit Threshold: Typ 7.1A/9.4A
- Operation mode: Forced PWM operation / Eco-Mode operation (PFM at light load)
3. Noise reduction by adopting Hot Rod package
The Hot Rod package is used to minimize parasitic components inside the package, reduce the noise level, improve efficiency, and reduce the package size.
The device also features an input and GND pinout. The VIN and GND pins are arranged symmetrically as shown on the right. This arrangement causes current to flow through the device from both sides, acting to cancel each other's magnetic fields. This effect leads to improvements in both conducted EMI and radiated EMI.
