What is the crosspoint switch "HD3SS460" that supports alternate mode?
The HD3SS460 is a USB Type-C alternate mode crosspoint switch provided by Texas Instruments (hereafter TI).
In alternate mode, signals such as DisplayPort, HDMI, and PCIe can be communicated with a single USB Type-C cable.
The HD3SS460 has the following major features.
1. Multiplexer function for high-speed communication
The multiplexer function of HD3SS460 supports USB3.1 (Gen1) 5Gbps and Display Port 1.2a (alternate mode) 5.4Gbps.
*Includes a multiplexer for low-speed SBU signals.
2. Supports adaptive common mode tracking
The HD3SS460 will work with differential signals up to 1800mVpp with a common mode voltage range of 0-2V.
3. Temperature range -40 to 85°C
Suitable for industrial temperature range (-40 to 85°C).

As an easy way to evaluate the HD3SS460, TI provides the HD3SS460EVM-SRC evaluation board.
The HD3SS460EVM-SRC evaluation board has the following interfaces.

- USB Type-C connector x 1

Connection method
Here, we will introduce the connection method when using two HD3SS460EVM-SRC for evaluation. In the example below, the left side is the host and the right side is the slave.
Simply connect the two evaluation boards via USB or DisplayPort and start evaluating.
